Our Story

As early as 1643, the Portuguese explorer Luthmin described ginseng after his travel to China. The plant he found was Panax Ginseng, which had been regarded for thousands of years as the most significant herb in Asia.

In 1716, the Jesuit priest Father Joseph Francois Lafitau in Quebec took diagrams from Father Jartoux to the Iriquois living near Montreal. They identified a similar plant, Panax quinquefolius, growing in the hardwood forests near Montreal.

In 1896, Mr. Clarence Hellyer established the first known ginseng garden under artificial shade in Waterford, Ontario - Canada. Over the next few decades, a few growers from Ontario and Wiconsin established the market for field- cultivated North American ginseng .

Canada currently the largest producer of North American Ginseng in the world. The majority of production is from Ontario. With the clean air, fresh water, fertile soil and minimal pollution, Ontario creates the perfect North American ginseng growing area in the world.

Ginseng, different from almost all of other plants, requires a specific growing condition with a lengthy growing period, from 4-5 years, while it just can be grown on the same soil once. Combined, these elements make ginseng one of the most difficult crops in the world to grow. Each year we acquire a new land in order to keep up with our customers’ demand.

The fresh ginseng roots are harvested in October and November after 4-5 years, but we mostly supply the 5-year-products. The fresh roots are then washed, assorted, aged in coolers before immediately dried in our industrial kilns.

Dried roots are tested to confirm the dryness and consistent quality, then packed in boxes and stored in our special warehouse with low humidity, before shipped to our customers over the world.

Ginseng grown in Ontario, Canada is well known to have the highest levels of ginsenosides - the essence which made Ginseng the miracle gift from nature to mankind’ s health.
